Responsibilities and Duties

  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers and scanners
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
  • Responding in a timely manner to service issues and requests
  • Providing technical support for all clients (this may be in person or over the phone)
  • Setting up accounts for new users
  • Repairing and replacing equipment as necessary
  • Testing new technology
  • Giving orientations to end users on what you did for them

  • OSI Model and why we use it - Expert Knowledge
  • IT Best Practices - Expert Knowledge
  • Backup Methodologies- Expert Level
  • Wireless Networking - Intermediate level Knowledge
  • General TCP/IP Networking - Intermediate level knowledge
  • Windows Server Systems up to 2018 - intermediate level knowledge
  • Active Directory - Intermediate level knowledge
  • VMWare / HyperV- General Understanding
  • General Applications such as Microsoft Office/O365, Adobe etc. - General Knowledge
  • High End Server Hardware Systems such as HP, Dell etc.. - Expert Level
  • Windows Desktop OS's- Expert Level
  • Mac Desktop OS's- Intermediate level
  • Linux OS's - General Knowledge

IT Support job qualifications and requirements

Although a formal degree might not always be necessary in this role, tertiary qualifications can include the following:
  • College diploma in IT or Electronics computing technologies
  • Computer Science
  • Computing
  • Engineering

Also worth noting is the occasionally physical nature of the role as you may have to lift and carry heavy equipment.

Must have

  • No criminal record
  • Must have your own car as there will be travel to client sites
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen
  • Must reside in the Waterloo Region
